The temperature is especially important in farrowing stables, because in a small place there are two different temperatures required. For this we offer special slats for under the sow. These slats are equipped with a cooling tube system.
Pig Innovation Center (PIC) Sterksel has conducted two years of research into floor cooling in lactating sows. This shows that the sows in a farrowing stable with floor cooling consume more feed. This manifests itself in less weight loss in the sow and higher weaning weights in the piglets. The economic benefit of the system is calculated at EUR 60.00 per farrowing pen per year.
Floor cooling is most effective with cast iron slats fitted with a shoulder plate. The optimum temperature of the cooling water is 21 degrees.
